London Day 6

It started out as another drizzly day, but we decided to brave it and go on to the Tower of London. The rain fortunately stopped by the time we got there and it turned out to be a good touring experience. It wasn't terribly crowded when we got there and seeing the crown jewels first meant we didn't have to wait in line at a later time. We spent about four hours touring the grounds, looking at exhibits, and walking around. When we were finished there we went on the the British Library. They had some phenomenal exhibits, particularly if you're a bit of a bibliofile like me and enjoy books. In addition to the exhibits, they also had a very expensive gift shop. We left after about two hours when the fire alarms went off. They take their fire alarms very seriously (they must have a more reliable system than what we have at Pitts) and we were forced to evacuate. Fortunately, we had seen everything we wanted to see anyway. We went on to St. Paul's Cathedral for their Maundy Thursday Eucharist service. Ther sermon was a bit odd (complete with a reference to TV chef Jamie Oliver), but the musical offerings were very nice. For dinner, Darryl wanted to find a restaurant in Chinatown. Myka was hungry and just wanted to eat. The first restaurant we stopped at was absolutely awful. But, it gave us a chance to learn something about ourselves and why it is always frustrating to decide on a place to eat. We walked around Chinatown a bit longer, looking for a better restaurant, then deciding it would be best to get a take-away. (There was a 20-pound minimum for us to eat in!) We took our take-away back with us and ate at Victoria Station before going back to the hotel.
