Book 8 for 2005

What you wear can change your life by Trinny Woodall and Susannah Constantine; © 2004, 264 p., Penguin Books.

This is the second book published in America (possibly the third in Britain?) by the two funny but blunt ladies of the original "What Not To Wear" television series (by the BBC, of course, not TLC). I think this is better than their first book because it goes into more detail than the first. Their first book, What not to wear, focused on how to hide certain unsightly aspects of your body, such as saddlebags, big upper arms, no waist, etc. This book teaches you more how to identify exactly what type of body you have and how to appreciate it for what it is. In our country, where obesity is the fastest growing epidemic and more emphasis is placed on a person's looks, it is easy to get sucked into unhealthy diet fads and emotional sinkholes when it comes to our appearance. Trinny and Susannah have the gift of holding a mirror up to a person, saying "Look at yourself, see what you don't like but don't ignore the good points," and then teach you how to dress so that your good points are accentuated. I would highly reccommend this book to any woman who is feeling a little down on her body. I would even reccommend it to those who aren't. Let's face it, there are few of us who are not in the need of a wardrobe overhaul.
